A Historic Honor: Dr. Tecoy Porter Receives Wyatt T. Walker Award at Star-Studded Keepers of the Dream Gala

There are those who speak truth to power, and then there are those who build power for the people.

At the National Action Network 2025 Keeper’s of the Dream Awards, we honored Rev. Dr. Tecoy Porter Sr., President of NAN Sacramento, with the Rev. Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker Social Justice Award which is named for one of the architects of the modern civil rights movement.

Dr. Walker didn’t just preach the gospel, he activated it. From marching with Dr. King to bringing that movement back home to Harlem, he founded local senior citizen housing units, launched Harlem’s first charter school, and made his church a headquarters for justice. He didn’t wait on change, he built it.

That same spirit lives in Dr. Porter. A national leader, not just a local one that is transforming lives through education, housing, arts, and strategy rooted in the church but powered by community. From Sacramento to the national stage, his work is shaping the future and carrying forward Dr. Walker’s legacy of faith in action.

Presented by Rev. Sharpton, with Jachele Walker, Martin Luther King III, Anthony Anderson, and Dr. W. Franklin Richardson on stage, this moment was not just about honoring the past. It was about fueling what comes next.

The movement continues. Tap into the full NAN Convention recap now at nanConvention2025.net.
